Netflix Top 100 - 68. - Public Enemies

What the hell happened to Johnny Depp in this movie\?  Oh yeah, he had nothing to work with in terms of a script.  It all comes down to the writing when a movie works or doesn't and this movie is just plain boring.  It follows the life of John Dillinger(Depp) and his gang of bank robbers, including Baby Face Nelson, played by Stephen Graham of "Boardwalk Empire" fame, and Channing Tatum plays Pretty Boy Floyd.   They are being chased through most of the movie by the FBI and specifically special agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) and his gang of G-men.

As they are being pursued, Dillinger decides to bring along a coat check girl named Billie (Marion Cotillard), for the ride and a "love affair" ensues along the way.  I placed this term in quotes because the characters in this movie don't seem deep enough to fall in love.  And despite the performances by the wonderful cast, this movie falls flat on its face.  It's too long, too short on plot, and after an hour, boring as hell. Wait for it to show up on cable and maybe you can get through it. I barely made it out alive.
